Student Progress

What If My Student Is In The Wrong Level At The Beginning Of The Session?

We evaluate each Student at the first Lesson and will address any situation where a class is not a match based on the skill level of the group. If you have concerns, please let a Deck Specialist know right away. Our goal is to provide the best lessons for our Students and to always have Students in the best class for their skill and development level.

What If My Student Moves Up A Level Early In The Session?

If a Student improves greatly in the first few lessons in the Session and should need to move classes, we will do our best to accommodate the change in level. Families will have the option to Add a Swim during the first six weeks of a Session, therefore classes are open for some movement. Teachers will also have the training to challenge Students with next level skills as Students master skills of current class.

How Will I Know How My Student Is Progressing In Their Class?

Teachers will provide progress reports and homework tips for your Student on a weekly basis. You will also receive a formal Level Recommendation in each Session. The Teacher and Deck Specialist will work together to inform parents as skills are being mastered and ensure Students are challenged on new skills when current level skills are achieved.

What Is A Level Recommendation?

Level Recommendations are completed towards the end of a Session, Camp, or Clinic by the Teacher and Deck Specialist. Level Recommendations will inform you on how your Student has progressed and recommendation on the proper level placement for the next quarter.

What If My Student Moves Up A Level After Receiving Their Level Recommendation For The Next Session?

We realize that after Level Recommendations are given, there are still weeks left to improve. As such, our Teachers are trained to ask the Deck Specialist to retest the Student and address the Families that need to move to a new Level in the next Session. Our Deck Specialists are also always available to address any concerns families may have after receiving a level recommendation from their Teacher.

When Will Patches Be Given Out?

Skill Patches will be given out during the last week of the Session, Camp, or Clinic.

Will My Student Graduate After Each Session?

Each Student progresses at their own pace. A Student will graduate to the next level when they demonstrate the swim skills needed in that level confidently and consistently. Our goal is to ensure Students advance as quickly as possible. Some Students may require multiple Sessions to gain the confidence and skills to swim safely in the next level. The best way to ensure Student progress and build confidence is with additional swimming via added swim lessons and use of family swim. Students tend to regress when taking a break from swimming.

What If A Student Ages Up During The Session?

The Rule of Thumb, Students should be registered for the age group based on the age they are when they start the session (vast majority). For Teddy Parents looking to exit the water asap: if the Student will be over 36 months for the majority of the Session, move to Paddle age group, if parent is happy swimming with children keep them in Teddy. In cases of Students aging up during a level in levels beyond Teddy, we will review on a case by case basis, generally following The Rule of Thumb, but we can make exceptions if it completes a desired schedule.
