Amanda B.

What was a great teaching moment in your career?
I worked with a child who was terrified to get in the water after a traumatizing experience in previous lessons with another swim school. I eased him into the water slowly and I used the other two little boys in the class to show him how fun lessons are. The little boys were so excited to show him all about Bear Paddle lessons, and how the three are great friends and he is so excited to come to swim every week!

Who was your favorite swim figure / hero growing up?
Michael Phelps. I am so in awe of his drive. He works so hard and it shows in the pool! I thought if he can be so dedicated to swimming, so can I! I try to apply that ethic in the water. I want to give my students all that I've got! Their successes are my reward!

Why do you choose a career in aquatics over others?
I have always loved the water! Sharing the joy of swimming and exposing little ones to that same joy makes me so happy! I leave work every day satisfied and excited to share stories from my day! I get to be active and silly, sing, give high fives, and swim with awesome kiddos! What could be better?!?

Why do you like working at Bear Paddle?
Bear Paddle truly has a passion for showing the importance of swimming! They are incredibly supportive of their staff and truly have the safety of swimmers at the forefront of everything they do!

What’s your favorite swim stroke?
My favorite swim stroke is breaststroke. It is such a powerful stroke! It takes some time to learn, but once you do it becomes your default stroke.

What is your favorite moment at Bear Paddle so far as an SSM?
Bear Paddle so far as an SSM? * My favorite moment as an SSM is anytime our parents share their child's success stories with me.
